FEAST OF SANTO TOMÁS
The feast of Santo Tomás, celebrated on December 21, is a very special tradition in San Sebastián and in many other regions of the Basque Country. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, when farmers and ranchers gathered to give thanks for the harvests and celebrate the end of the agricultural cycle of the year. At that time, it was common for markets to be filled with local products, and the community to share their harvests in a festive atmosphere.
Today, in the heart of San Sebastián, the festival remains a unique time to enjoy the tradition. During the day, the streets are filled with colour and joy, especially in the Old Town area, where the Santo Tomás markets offer typical products from the region. One of the great stars of the day are the traditional Santo Tomás talos, delicious and made with corn flour, which are enjoyed as a symbol of abundance and luck for the new year.
At the Hotel Parma, located just a few minutes from the Old Town of the city, we love being part of this local celebration. We like to welcome our guests in a welcoming atmosphere full of history, ideal for enjoying the Santo Tomás festival after a day exploring the city. Whether strolling through the lively streets of San Sebastián or tasting the typical cakes in one of the markets, the experience of the festival is an unforgettable memory of Basque culture.
