DANCE: THE HIDDEN LANGUAGE OF THE SOUL
According to Martha Graham (1894-1991), “dance is the hidden language of the soul”. These are the words of one of the leading figures of modern dance in the United States and one of the greatest choreographers of the 20th century. In Donostia, we embrace this way of understanding and experiencing dance, as reflected in the events organised by the Asociación de Profesionales de la Danza de Gipuzkoa to celebrate the month of dance.
Last weekend, we had the chance to experience this art form up close at Alderdi Eder thanks to the Dantza Kalean festival. The following day, 1,485 students from schools across Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia, accompanied by 33 teachers, brought the elegance of ballet to our beloved La Concha promenade: as every year, the XVIII Barandilla de La Concha was truly moving.
But the show is not over yet. On 3 May, we will celebrate the XXIX Gala of the International Dance Day, with the Victoria Eugenia Theatre hosting a wide variety of dance performances. Shows will take place at 12:00 and 19:00, featuring dancers such as Eukene Sagüés, Mattia Santini, Irma Hoffren, Raphaël Canet and Ada González, as well as companies including Malandain Ballet Biarritz, Led Silhouette, Kresala Dantza Taldea and Compañía Danza Mobile.
There will also be awards! This year, the Asociación de Profesionales de la Danza de Gipuzkoa (APDG) has chosen to honour the renowned choreographer Thierry Malandain during the 19:00 performance.
You can immerse yourself in the world of dance just a 3-minute walk from Hotel Parma. Get your tickets and join us!
