European Capital of Smart Tourism 2024: San Sebastian, a finalist
The European Commission has presented the six shortlisted candidates to be awarded as European Capital of Smart Tourism of 2024, instead of the usual four due to a tie in the score. The aim is to distinguish “the city that demonstrates a special commitment to shaping the future of sustainable and innovative tourism. The purpose of the award is also to promote the interaction and consolidation of destinations, while making it easier to exchange good practices in this sector,” according to sources from the organization.
From a group of 30 candidates from 17 countries, the finalists selected are, in alphabetical order, Bremerhaven (Germany), Cork and Dublin (Ireland), Genoa (Italy), Helsingborg (Sweden) and San Sebastián (Spain). They are followed, without finalist status, by Essen (Germany), Gdynia (Poland), Odense (Denmark), Padua and Parma (both in Italy).
