According to Martha Graham (1894-1991), “dance is the hidden language of the soul”. These are the words of one of the leading figures of modern dance in the United States and one of the greatest choreographers of the 20th century. In Donostia, we embrace this way of understanding and experiencing dance, as reflected in the events organised by the Asociaci\u00f3n de Profesionales de la Danza de Gipuzkoa<\/span> to celebrate the month of dance.<\/p>\n

Last weekend, we had the chance to experience this art form up close at Alderdi Eder thanks to the Dantza Kalean<\/strong> festival. The following day, 1,485 students from schools across Gipuzkoa and Bizkaia, accompanied by 33 teachers, brought the elegance of ballet to our beloved La Concha promenade: as every year, the XVIII Barandilla de La Concha<\/strong> was truly moving.<\/p>\n

But the show is not over yet. On 3 May, we will celebrate the XXIX Gala of the International Dance Day<\/strong>, with the Victoria Eugenia Theatre hosting a wide variety of dance performances. Shows will take place at 12:00 and 19:00, featuring dancers such as Eukene Sag\u00fc\u00e9s, Mattia Santini, Irma Hoffren, Rapha\u00ebl Canet and Ada Gonz\u00e1lez, as well as companies including Malandain Ballet Biarritz, Led Silhouette, Kresala Dantza Taldea and Compa\u00f1\u00eda Danza Mobile.<\/p>\n

There will also be awards! This year, the Asociaci\u00f3n de Profesionales de la Danza de Gipuzkoa<\/span> (APDG) has chosen to honour the renowned choreographer Thierry Malandain during the 19:00 performance.<\/p>\n
