ECLIPSE FROM SAN SEBASTIÁN

On 12 August, one of the most anticipated astronomical events of recent decades will take place: a solar eclipse. The eclipse will reach its peak at around 8:20 pm.

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, partially or completely blocking the Sun from our view. This year’s event is especially remarkable, as it will be the first total solar eclipse visible from the Iberian Peninsula in more than a century.

Although the eclipse will only be partial in Donostia, it promises to be a spectacular sight and a unique opportunity to experience the sky in a completely different way. After all, moments like these don’t come around very often.

If you’re staying in Donostia on this special day, we recommend heading to La Concha Promenade (just a 10-minute walk from Hotel Parma), Mount Igueldo, or any elevated spot with an open view towards the west. These will be some of the best places to enjoy the eclipse as the sun begins to set. Paseo Nuevo, where Hotel Parma is located, is another outstanding viewing point.

Remember to wear certified eclipse glasses. Looking directly at the Sun without proper eye protection can cause permanent damage to your eyesight.
